Support for Diverse Work Styles and Work Hour Management
The Daiichi Sankyo Group of companies creates an environment in which a diverse range of employees can work comfortably and manage their work life balance. Across the Daiichi Sankyo Group of companies, efforts are being implemented including, for example, flexible working arrangements, working-from-home arrangements, systems for balancing work and childcare/caregiving/medical treatment. Related seminars and consultations are also offered.
Since FY2020, through “DS Smart Work”, which is an initiative in Japan that aims to continuously create additional value and enhance engagement by reviewing work styles, Group companies in Japan have sought to create more time, aiming to enable employees to have more time away from work, thereby achieving the promotion of the work-life cycle.
Childcare support at Group Companies in Japan and the US
The Daiichi Sankyo Group of companies has created an environment in which employees can maximize their abilities and develop their careers while raising children.
Japan:
Paid Parental Leave
Employees raising a child under one year of age may take this paid parental leave until the day before the child reaches two years of age at the maximum. In addition, female employees raising a child under one year of age may take up to two hours per day of “childcare time”. (The legal limit is one hour, so this is an in-house system that exceeds the legal limit.) Childcare time is also allowed to be used for breastfeeding time.
Shorter working hour system (regular or flexible working arrangements selectable)
Employees who are taking care of a child up to the end of the fourth grade of elementary school may shorten their daily working hours.
Paid child nursing care leave
Employees may take up to 10 days leave per year in 15-minute increments in the event of illness or injury of a child up to the end of the fourth grade of elementary school.
Japanese law provides for 5 days leave for one child and 10 days for two or more children, but there is no provision for pay. Daiichi Sankyo group companies in Japan provide up to 5 days of the 10 days granted with pay. Spouses are also entitled to 5 days with pay within 180 days after childbirth.
On-site Childcare Centers "KIDS GARDEN" (Nihonbashi, Shinagawa, Hiratsuka)
On-site childcare centers are established to support children waiting for admission to daycare centers.
Permanent daycare: Children between 57 days old and preschool age who are on the waiting list for admission to preschool are eligible for admission.
Temporary childcare: Available when the childcare center or kindergarten where the child is usually taken is closed.
Support for use of babysitting services
Through a partnership with an outside professional company, a portion of the fees for babysitting services are subsidized.
In addition, various other systems are in place to support employees raising children, including a childcare support interview system for smooth leave and return to work, a childcare support desk, seminars to support employees returning to work, operation of a website to support work and childcare balance.
United States:
Pregnancies and childcare benefits
At DSI, various pregnancy and childcare support systems are offered through the company’s medical provider or employee discount partnerships.
Breast-feeding/lactation facilities and benefits
Five mothers' rooms are arranged at Daiichi Sankyo, Inc.’s Basking Ridge office. They are available for use by employees as well as visitors. The company also allows employees to send breast milk while traveling for business as an expense.
Nursing care support at Group Companies in Japan and the US
The Group is creating an environment in which employees can continue to work with peace of mind without having to leave their jobs due to nursing care.
Japan:
Paid Nursing care leave
Nursing care leave is also not legally required to be paid, but group companies in Japan provide up to 5 days leave of the 10 days granted with pay.
The scope of nursing care leave applies to (1) the employee's and spouse's biological parents, (2) spouse, (3) children, and (4) siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Shorter working hour system (regular or flexible working arrangements selectable)
Employees who care for a family member in need of nursing care can shorten their daily working hours.
Support for medical consultation and agency services
Group companies in Japan have a partnership with an outside professional company that provides nursing consultation and nursing care agency services.
United States:
Support for medical consultation and agency services
At DSI, various services are available through medical plans including resources to find adult day care and nursing home care as well as finding in-network nursing home facilities.
Creating a Workplace Environment that Empowers People with Disabilities
We set a medium-term policy for the employment of people with disabilities in Japan, and promotes such employment at Group companies such as Daiichi Sankyo Happiness (a special subsidiary company that meets the terms of the Act on the Promotion of the Employment of Disabled Persons). We subdivide and simplify workplace tasks to enable people with disabilities to become active
participants, taking on work from various other Group companies. In FY2019, the Daiichi Sankyo Group companies in Japan employed individuals with disabilities at a ratio of 2.3% (the legally required employment ratio is 2.2%).
