The various obstacles impeding access to healthcare in developing countries include, 1)the relative lack of healthcare systems and infrastructure, 2) shortages of healthcare professionals, 3) shortages of human capital capable of manufacturing pharmaceuticals, and 4) effectively managing quality control. The Daiichi Sankyo Group will fully leverage its resources with the aim of becoming a positive force toward removing these obstacles.
Reinforcement of Healthcare Foundations in Developing Countries through Partnerships with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), etc.
In collaboration with NGOs and other partners, strive to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in developing countries. Each partner is selected after our Social Contributions Committee has fully understood the medical needs of the target location and has confirm the absence of any conflict of interest with our commercial transactions involving the partner.
Access Accelerated Initiative
We are participating in Access Accelerated, a collective with the purpose of improving prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and other aspects of NCDs* in low- and lower-middle income countries. Access Accelerated was established in 2017 by pharmaceutical companies from Japan, the United States, and Europe in partnership with the World Bank and the Union for International Cancer Control.
*Non-Communicable Diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes.
Support for Enhancing Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technologies in Developing Countries
We support the enhancement of pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies in developing countries through technology transfer, training, and technical assistance, partnering with local public institutions and private enterprises.
