During the month of June, Daiichi Sankyo is proud to recognize Pride month.
In the Daiichi Sankyo group of companies, we define "inclusion" as creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued, enabling all employees to be themselves and work in a way which they feel safe and respected. June marks Pride month, in which we acknowledge and celebrate the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) Community.
This month brings awareness and pride to the stories of the LGBTQ+ community. Across the globe, various events are held during this special month as a way of recognizing the ability to be authentic about who we are and open about who we love and the positive influence LGBTQ+ people have had around the world.
We welcome and embrace difference at Daiichi Sankyo. One of our core behaviors is Be Inclusive & Embrace Diversity, which means that we value people for who they are as individuals, and welcome diverse perspectives in our work, which enables us to achieve more as one Daiichi Sankyo.
To make this core behavior come to life, we respect and appreciate people with diverse backgrounds, and we strive to create a work environment where everyone feels safe, heard, and valued, which builds a sense of belonging. Another priority is to ensure that all employees have equal opportunities to succeed regardless of gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or other dimension of diversity.
In addition to being a month-long celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, Pride Month is an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise awareness of current issues facing the community. Parades are a prominent feature of Pride Month, and there are many festivals, community events, and educational sessions, all of which are covered by mainstream media and attract millions of participants.
Pride month is also important because it commemorates the start of huge change within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as wider societal implications. Although harmful attitudes and injustice still remain, a lot of progress has been made in the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law for the LGBTQ+ community. By continuing in this long-standing tradition this month, we are committed to raising awareness to improve the attitudes of society and encourage inclusiveness.
While we are early in our inclusion and diversity journey, as a company we are doing our part to celebrate and learn about the LGBTQ+ community this month, and throughout the year. In Daiichi Sankyo offices around the world, we are acknowledging this month by raising the prominent rainbow flag in the office, offering training to employees, and featuring employee testimonials about the importance of celebrating the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
As we close Pride Month, we at Daiichi Sankyo all over the world encourage our employees to stay curious, learn, grow, and celebrate different perspectives today and every day.
